ABOUT OUR CLASSES:
We teach the following disciplines: Pre-Ballet, Ballet, Point, Character Dance, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Tap. The schedule offers various classes for students ages 3 to adult. We encourage all students, age eight and older to take two or more classes weekly to ensure maximum benefit from their training. It is recommended, but not mandatory.
Ballet
Ballet is one of the most fundamental, challenging, and rewarding dance disciplines. Ballet training is a building ground for any dance style. Ballet, like no other discipline stresses on strength, agility, balance, posture, and body alignment. Our Ballet program provides students with training that will enhance their technical abilities while developing expressiveness and artistic awareness. It is developed to accommodate the ability, level and age of our students. Classes for different levels and ages are offered.
Pointe
Pointe is essential for the serious dancer. The dancer must be at least 11 years of age, with disciplined experience in Ballet from 3 to 5 years of study. Pointe may only be taken at the discretion of the teacher. In order to take Pointe student must take at least two Ballet classes per week.
Creative Dance
Children (3-5 year olds) will explore the basic elements of dance while having fun moving, using props and hearing a variety of music. This class will help students develop concentration, music appreciation, social skills, self-confidence and coordination.
Pre-Ballet
Students (5-7 year olds) begin a more formal study of classical ballet through age-appropriate skill development, creative expression and the relationship between music and dance.
Character Dance
Character Dance is a specific subdivision of Classical Dance. It is the stylized representation of a traditional folk or national dance and uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theatre. Character Dance course offers a wide variety of dances from all over the world, including Latin, Swing and much more... It is a "Happy Hour" that is stimulating to students and teachers as well, it is infectious in its feeling for the joy of dance.
Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop is a high-energy dance form influenced by Afro-Caribbean dance forms associated with development of contemporary street dance today. This class will bring a level of high energy and excitement to the students and definitely keep you in shape along with learning the newest upbeat moves. Learning is easiest when it's fun.
Jazz
Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of a a full-body warm-up with isolation, unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.
Tap
In tap dance, performers wear shoes which have been equipped with metal plates. As the dancer moves, the plates click against the dance floor, creating a characteristic tapping sound. Tappers can create a variety of percussive rhythms with their feet by tapping, sliding, and clicking the metal plates. The technique of Tap is a wonderful way to learn a sense of rhythm and coordination.
Modern
Modern dance is a dance style that centers on a dancer's own interpretations instead of structured steps, as in traditional ballet dancing. Modern dance encourages dancers to use their emotions and moods to design their own steps and routines. Another characteristic of modern dance in opposition to ballet is the deliberate use of gravity. Whereas classical ballet dancers strive to be light and airy on their feet, modern dancers often use their body weight to enhance movement.
Performance opportunities
We believe that the experience of performing complements the work of students in the classroom by giving them the opportunity to apply what they learned on stage, thereby encouraging them to express publicly what they have learned privately in lessons. Premier Dance School offers students several opportunities to perform during the course of the year. Participation is not mandatory, but students should inform teachers if they do not wish to participate.
End-of-the-year Show
At the end of the year, students from all classes will have the opportunity to present what they have achieved during the course of the year to friends and family in our spring performance. It will be the culmination of a year's work of studying style and technique and the fruit of much rehearsal.
Competitions
Participation in dance competitions offers students something slightly different from regular performances. Preparing for a competition requires students to strive for excellence and to compete in challenging situations. The competition itself has the potential to offer students the taste of joy, victory, and awards, as well as an unforgettable model to look back on later when they are competing in other arenas.
Community Performances
Students of our school often take part in local performances of various types. Participation in any of these performances may require students or parents to purchase or rent costumes and attend additional rehearsals, etc.
